Scientifically Proven that Genesis is False

People have asked me to provide a solid piece of evidence using science that god doesn’t exist. You don’t have to look any further than the first book in the bible, the first chapter and first verse.

Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Science tells us that the universe is about 13.7 billion years old, and that the Earth is just slightly less than 4.5 billion years old – or just less than 1/3 the age of the universe.
Therefore using those accepted scientific values we can say incontrovertibly that Genesis 1:1 is scientifically disproven because we know that the heavens and the earth did not come into being at the same time.

  1. This circular logic is neither scientific nor proven. I’ve read some rather compelling evidence; but this isn’t it.

The truth is that science, logic, and reason are not the other side of the faith coin. Science cannot be used by atheists to prove God does not exist no more than it can be used by creationists to prove that he does. Any scientist worth his salt knows this.

I’ve written extensivly one this subject here: http://themasterstable.wordpress.com/2008/05/10/the-failure-of-science-vs-religion/

  2. Genesis 1:1 is scientifically disproven because we know that the heavens and the earth did not come into being at the same time.

What makes you think Genesis 1:1 is saying that God created the heavens and the earth at the same time?

  3. Well Chris, define “In the beginning”. Once you do that, then you will have your answer.
Note: it does not say anywhere in Genesis, that: First God created the heavens, then he created the Earth. That could be understood as at different times, but that is not what it says. I am just going by what it says.
Not to try to second guess him, or out think him, but assuming science is correct in its calculations, does it even stand to reason that he created the universe, and then waited a further 9.2 billion years to add the Earth to his collection of creation? That’s a long time to wait.

  4. Well Clark

I don’t think it is circular logic. It’s a scientific formula of how old the universe is.
Smarter people than me came up with the numbers. I don’t make the facts fit my arguments, I just report the facts as I understand them.
If the faith coin has another side, tell me if you can – what is it? Is it more faith? Believing in, without questioning anything? Ideally that is what faith is – a way of justifying a belief, without ever providing a shred of evidence or proof to back it. Simply believing that faith is just that – faith. No answers. No questions. No solutions.
I am not implying that science alone holds the key – but at least it attempts to seek out the answers of the questions. Religion does none of this. Faithheads need not justify their beliefs because they say they don’t. They are right, we are wrong and society lets them get away with it because for too long religion has not had to answer to any real authority. It just paddles on infecting more people with its mindvirus, and never offering anything other than “faith” as an answer to any questions that have been asked of it.

  5. Actually, what religious folk fail to have the capacity to understand is, that as much as they have “blind faith” in that they actually feel more worthy by believing fairy tales without a shred of evidence, we, being science folk, do not and in fact in a way laugh at such. We in turn have what is called scientific method. For something to be a hypothesis, it requires an idea with a little bit of evidence. As the evidence is proven and shown to work bit by bit to prove the hypothesis, the idea moves into the category of “theory”. Theory, as much as religious fairy tale believers would like everyone to believe, does not mean fact, it means a body of idea and evidence that for the most part is accepted as fact but still has bits that need to be worked out. Once an idea has been proven it becomes accepted as a fact. It doesn’t have to be perfect and in science, and this is one of the beauties of science, a fact can change as new evidence comes about, and we, as science people, are okay with that. Its all about ideas, facts, evidence and proof doing a little on-going never ending dance.

Religion on the other hand, is bunk. The idea of a god or gods doesn’t even make it past idea stage because there is no evidence that any of the fairy tales religious folk believe are even remotely true.

And by the way religious people, evolution is at the fact stage in the eyes of most scientists.. Its mainly you and your mob that say the Theory of evolution. Put that in your pipe and smoke it god boy.
